Consider How Much Space You Have to Work With

It should go without saying that dancers require space. Booking event entertainment to perform at your event is out of the question if you’re having trouble finding a place to seat your guests. Before booking any type of performance for your event, dancers especially, carefully analyze the available space at your venue to be sure you aren’t paying for unused talent. While performers require different types of spaces at the venue, their primary need will be a space to perform in. The amount of space dancers need to perform will vary depending on the number of people in the performance, the size of the performance, and the type of act they are performing. Floor space isn’t the only thing to pay attention to in preparing to book performers, though. You should also pay attention to the height of the ceilings in your main venue space, especially if you have an acrobatic or aerial performance in mind, or a performance that may include props. In analyzing the available performance space at your event venue, you should develop a floor plan. The plan should include where every piece of furniture in the room will be during the event, which will help you make sure that there will be ample space for guest seating and dining, mingling, a bar or serving stations, DJ booth, check-in tables, or any other amenities you plan to have set up at the event. If you are pressed for space that will accommodate all of these essentials, you should not book event entertainment to perform at your event. Without enough room to properly execute their planned performance, the dancers (and their agent) will either be upset and unwilling to work with you again, or they may refuse to perform at all. Another type of space that dancers require is a private room, or rooms depending on the size of the performing group, where the dancers can change, stretch, and both prepare and relax before and after the performance. This space should, at a bare minimum, have enough room to accommodate the entire group of performers at once. Ideally, though, this space will also be able to accommodate the performers’ costumes and other belongings and have easy access to a restroom. You should not decide on your own if the space you have available will be enough to accommodate your performers. Once you have decided on a performance style and are in contact with a talent agency, ask detailed questions about the number of dancers who will be performing and the amount of space they will need, if this information isn’t provided to you already. You may even consider offering to provide the talent agent or dancers with a tour of the venue before moving forward with the booking process to make sure everything will work out for both you and your performers.
